FACT

An Expression of Interest (EOI) submitted by the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council (MLALC) proposes four high-rise residential towers on the Eastern side of the Heritage Listed Yasmar Estate, some up to eight storeys high. The EOI was endorsed by the Housing Development Authority and approved by The Hon. (Paul) Paul SCULLY, BCom(Hons), MMgmt(Dist), MP on 9 April 2026.

The proposal is in the Environmental Impact Statement stage. This means you can register now with the NSW Major Projects site to prepare to object (make a submission).

Imagine this behind your back yard. Artistic impression
  • Irreversible Heritage Damage - Removal of original gardens, mature trees, and rare plants will permanently destroy the historic integrity of the Heritage Listed Yasmar Estate.

  • Loss of Native Habitat - loss of established flora and fauna will be destroyed.

  • Property Value Decline - This development will undermine the low-density, unique character that makes Haberfield so desirable.

  • Unacceptable precedent - floodgates for further overdevelopment in Haberfield could be opened

An expanded version of these objections is available on the How to object tab.

If this proposal proceeds, the high rise towers would severely impact our suburb in the following ways:

  • Severe Overshadowing and Visual Dominance - permanent loss of natural light for many months

  • Loss of Privacy - Surveillance from elevated balconies

  • Traffic Chaos - local streets will become rat runs - Parramatta Rd and Ramsay St even more congested
